Truewall is an EPS rigid insulation in 4'X 8' sheets that incorporates a
1"X 3" furring strip. Ideal for insulating concrete walls and floors. Suitable applications include cathedral ceilings and other problematic areas.

TrueWall is designed to simplify the installation of the insulation over masonry or concrete walls, and specifically basement walls. Its simple design eliminates the need for studding and instead uses 1" X 3" wood strapping to not only hold the insulation in place, but to provide a frame to which the finished paneling or wallboard can be fastened. The following procedure allows the wall to be insulated easily and quickly.

How does it work?    Just click the TrueWall Animation Logo above!!

1.Fasten wood blocking (the thickness of the insulation plus 1/2") around window and door openings. If molding is going to be used along the top of the wall, fasten wood blocking across the top also.

2.Locate and fasten electrical outlet boxes to concrete wall with blocking behind them to insure that the outside edge of the electrical boxes will stand out 1/2" beyond the surface of the insulation. Run wiring along the face of the concrete and connect in boxes.

3.If wooden baseboards are to be used, determine required height of first row of strapping and trim bottom edge of foam. (Horizontal installation)

4.Starting from one corner, place Truewall sheets as shown in diagram and slip the strapping into the groove.

Using a 1/2" hammer drill and 5/32" masonry bits, drill through the strapping into the concrete wall. Then drive a concrete nail into the predrilled hole. When one row is completed, follow with another row directly above or next to it. Nails should be 2-3 feet apart.

5.Where wiring runs behind Truewall, press the Truewall against the wiring. This will leave a mark. With a sharp knife, cut a groove along the mark, so the Truewall can lie tight against the wall.

6.Staple your vapour barrier over the foam and you're ready to install your finished look to the basement.

Bottom line

You now have a truly insulated basement, conserving energy and saving money.
